How an overseas charity challenge works
Overseas challenges are an exhilarating and effective way of raising funds. When you take part, you pay a non-refundable registration fee (to cover administration and non-travel based costs) and agree to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship funds that need to be paid into the charity 10 weeks before departure.
So, this type of challenge differs from a conventional sponsored event, because you are also asking donors to cover the costs of your participation. Sometimes, participants elect to pay all or part of the tour costs themselves, so that every penny of donors contributions goes directly to the charity
It’s too much of a challenge to be a holiday
When you are looking for potential sponsors, it’s important that you explain exactly what’s involved so that they gain a true understanding of the undertaking.
Make them appreciate the personal challenge involved and the sacrifices necessary to train sufficiently to reach the appropriate level of fitness.
After all, most participants devote their annual leave to the challenge, selflessly for a great cause. It’s not everyone who’d be prepared to do the same.
