Our history

Turning financial resources into research facilities

In 1998 Professor Robert Winston launched the Queen Charlotte’s Appeal which raised over £13 million to build and equip the most advanced reproductive research centre in Europe, with space for 130 scientists and doctors working to improve the health of women and babies.

The Wolfson and Weston Research Centre for Family Health was officially opened by the Rt Hon Tony Blair Prime Minister in 2002 and undertakes research in all aspects of reproductive biology. Scientists and academic clinicians are engaged in research with close links to clinical practice.

Women for Women train women scientists and clinicians at the Wolfson and Weston Research Centre for Family Health – empowering more women to lead in this field.

Many of the researchers are leaders in their fields and have received both national and international awards.
